NASCAR, the most popular motorsport in the United States, has worked with numerous video game developers through the years to create an extensive game library. The franchises' titles span over three decades and five generations of gaming platforms.
From humble beginnings with "Richard Petty's Talladega" to its lofty heights with the "NASCAR Thunder" franchise, the series of games has shared many of the same highs and lows as the motorsport itself.
In 2003, EA Sports acquired an exclusive license from NASCAR to produce games for home consoles, eliminating Papyrus and Hasbro Interactive as competitors. Eutechnyx picked up the license in 2010 and produced games for the series until 2014.
Since 2015, 704 Games has been the exclusive developer for the NASCAR series. The current series features many employees that worked for Hasbro Interactive on the original NASCAR Heat franchise.
