Malta used to be a place with a whole lot of wide open space and fresh air, but since the arrival of Global Foundries new manufacturing facility in 2009, it has become a hotspot for endless development.
Before that time, most of Malta looked like this...A quiet town with few businesses and a lot of forest and fields.
In 2009, Global Foundries began construction on their "Fab 8" facility in Malta.
Construction was finally completed in 2012, at which point they began mass production to supply AMD (Advanced Micro Devices) with CPU Wafers for its Zen line of microprocessors used in the Ryzen, Threadripper and Epyc lines of CPUs.
There's no denying all of the growth and development Global Foundries brought with it to Malta. During it's construction, countless new restaurants and other businesses began to pop up all around town in anticipation of the expectant flux of new workers and general commerce coming to the area.
Additionally, and for the same reason, a vast number of new condominiums were built around town to accomodate the company and it's workers. However, many of the town's citizens couldn't help but notice the equally massive influx noise and traffic, as well as the vast deforestation that had taken place there.
