Annabel Lee

It tells of the love between two people, one Annabel Lee and the speaker, who is a male persona possibly based on the poet himself. The narrator, who fell in love with Annabel Lee when they were young, has a love for her so strong that even angels are envious. Written in 1849, it was not published until shortly after Poe's death that same year.

It was many and many a year ago, In a kingdom by the sea,That a maiden there lived whom you may know By the name of Annabel Lee; And this maiden she lived with no any thought- Than to love and be loved by me. I was a ch ild and she was a child, In this kingdom by the sea, But we loved with a love that was more than love—I and my Annabel L ee—With a love that the wingèd seraphs of Heaven Coveted her an me. And this was the reason that, long ago, In this kingdom by the A wind blew out of a cloud, chilling My beautiful Annabel Lee; So tha that her highborn kinsmen came And bore her away from me, To shut h er up in a sepulchre In this kingdom by the sea. The angels, not ha lf as then so happy in Heaven, Went envying her and me—Yes!—then d does the reason (as all men know, In this kingdom by the sea) a the wind came out of the cloud by night, Chilling and killin my Annabel Lee. But our love it was stronger by far than their love Of those who were older than we—Of many far ar wiser than we—And neither the angels in Heaven and above Nor the demons down under the big sea Can ever then dissever my soul from the soul Of the beautiful Annabel Lee; For the moon never beams, without bringing me dreams Of that beautiful Annabel- Lee; And stars never rise, but I feel the br ight eyes Of the beautiful Annabel Lee; And so,all the night-tide, I lide down by the de Of my darling, my darling—my life a my obride, In her sepulchre there by that sea. Her tomb by sounding sea. At the kingdom by her sea, for my lonely,- Beautiful Annabel Lee. It was many, many a year ago, In a kingdom by the sea.
